Equity Shareholder Clint Brown leads a discussion on the history of charitable immunity, its effect on volunteerism, and the state of the doctrine of charitable or volunteer immunity today, this presentation will relate the concept of volunteer immunity to property owners’ associations volunteers. Many states have charitable or volunteer immunity statutes under which property owners’ association volunteers might be covered. This presentation will analyze standard of care statutes and common law as well as the Texas Charitable Immunity and Liability Act and the Federal Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 as examples of a statutes granting immunity to property owners’ association volunteers.
