Protecting Employee Safety and Health, Addressing Employee Leaves of Absence, and Managing Remote Workers in the COVID Era
September 10 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has changed not just the way we live, but the way we work as well. Employers have increasingly faced new challenges in preventing the spread of COVID-19 at work, and in addressing various kinds of leave from employees with or without symptoms. To avoid some of these challenges, some employers have shifted to semi-remote or fully remote operations, but this alternative has its own host of issues. In light of these challenges, managers and executives should be asking themselves:
- Does my company have a health and safety plan in place? Have managers been trained to implement the company’s safety protocols? Do employees understand their role in helping prevent the spread of COVID-19 at work?
- Has my company’s employee handbook been revised to account for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)? Have managers or human resource personnel been trained on FFCRA leave entitlements and request administration?
- Are employees allowed to work remotely? If yes, do remote employees know what’s expected of them? Has management been trained on how to manage employees who work at home? What has the company done to protect its trade secrets from misappropriation by remote workers?
